Katherine K. Hart, PhD Candidate
As an experienced urban educator, I became interested in finding ways to reach nontraditional students. With a background in the arts and working creatively, I soon saw a link between my student's successes in literacy when their work was aligned with visual arts project based learning. My interest in the subject only blossomed as I worked further to complete my doctorate in education. Now, I work to bring the ideas of arts and literacy integration to my fellow educators and school districts.
Most of my experiences have occurred in middle and secondary education as well as the college level. I hold my BA in art history and journalism & media studies from Rutgers University, teaching credentials from Kean University, my masters in English literature and creative writing from Southern New Hampshire University and am a doctoral candidate at Capella University in Leadership in Educational Administration where my research focuses exclusively on literacy integration in urban secondary visual arts classrooms.
Outside of education, I am also a published author, a wife, a mother to the most precious little boy and a fur-mom to the tiny zoo I share with my husband in our little house by the ocean. I have a passion for travel, painting and reading.
